Sin City Mayor Says Obama’s Vegas Dis Ain’t Worth Craps

Sin City Mayor Says Obama’s Vegas Dis Ain’t Worth Craps

By JAKE TRAPPER, ABC NEWS’ SENIOR WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT

Oscar Goodman, the colorful mayor of Las Vegas, is outraged over comments President Obama made about his city, and has demanded that the president pay him an apology.
At issue are remarks about corporate responsibility Obama made at a town hall Monday in Elkhart, Ind., when responding to a question from an audience member.
“We’re going to do something to strengthen the banking system,” Mr. Obama said, “You are not going to be able to give out these big bonuses until you pay taxpayers back. You can’t get corporate jets. You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers’ dime. There’s got to be some accountability and some responsibility.”
Goodman responded today with outrage at Obama’s singling out his city in a negative light, dissuading — in his view — travel to Sin City.
“That’s outrageous,” Goodman, a Democrat, said to KLAS-TV today. “He owes us an apology. He owes us a retraction. What is a better place, I say, for them to come here. For them to change their mind and go someplace else and to cancel at the suggestion of the president of the United States, that is outrageous.”

Goodman is also the chairman of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and asked the state’s congressional delegation to speak to President Obama about this matter.

Goodman last made national news for defending an earmark he wanted put in the stimulus package, a $50 million museum dedicated to the history of organized crime.

The Fremont Street Experience

This one of kind venue is a must see when visting Las Vegas. The biggest screen in the world boasting over 12 million lights is a spectacle in its self. An amazing light show through Viva Vision accompanied with a 550,000 watt sound system is sure to give a one of kind experience. The shows run every night of the year and they are free. If you get the chance, check out downtown’s classic casinos and great dinner deals. You can’t say you’ve seen Vegas until you’ve seen downtown and the best part is it is extremely affordable!

Free things to do in Vegas!

Not everything you do in Las Vegas requires money.  There are many things to do that are free.  Here are our top 5.

5. Treasure Island - Every two hours in the evening, when the weather permits, a pirate battle takes place right at the entrance to the casino. With cannon shooting from two ships and pirates falling into the lake, you are sure to be entertained.

4. Venetian-  Although it costs money to ride around in the gondolas, walking around the beautiful faux canals of Venice is free.  You can’t help be captivated by the scenery and the window shopping is incredible here.

3.MGM Grand-  At the MGM Grand is the Lion Habitat, a huge enclosed plexiglass habitat for lions and tigers. You can get upclose and if you go in the cave in most cases be right under them.  This is great for picture taking and especially fun for the kids.

2.Bellagio - Bellagio actually takes the first and second place.  In second place definitely has to be the garden room.  I know this changes, but spring at The Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is all about the butterfly.  This is truly one of my favorite things to see and words cannot describe how magical it is until you are there.

1. Bellagio - Of course the number one free thing to do in Vegas is the spectacular water show in front of The Bellagio. Going off every 30 minutes is a well choreographed complex water show. The music is ever changing, so you will probably never see the same show twice on different trips to Vegas.  A definite must!
