Cher says she’s living like a nun in Las Vegas…

Cher says she’s living ‘like a nun’ in Las Vegas, doesn’t talk during day

By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY  for Associated Press

NEW YORK — Cher’s concert stand in Las Vegas may be the ultimate representation of Sin City: it’s decadent, glitzy, oversized, over-the-top and a thrill-a-minute experience.

But when she leaves the Colosseum at Caesars Palace at the end of her performance, the 62-year-old singer leads a lifestyle quite opposite from the kind that Las Vegas has come to represent: She stays out of the casinos, refrains from drinking, doesn’t smoke and stays away from the all-night party scene.

“I like to go out, do my work and then come home,” says Cher, who likens her time away from the stage to living like “a nun.”

Unlikely words from a woman who has represented quite the opposite over her nearly five-decade career (as the barely there outfits she dons in her show reflect). But while she puts on an eye-popping extravaganza in Vegas, Cher likes to keep her home life decidedly more low-key.

In a recent interview, Cher - who kicks off the second phase of her concerts at Caesars Palace this month - talked about her show, life in Vegas and why she finds herself in Target stores.

AP: What was the first season of shows like in Vegas?

Cher: The schedule is a dream schedule. The only thing that I kind of didn’t anticipate for some reason, I don’t know where my brain is, but I didn’t anticipate the dryness getting to my throat the way it did. … So when I’m there, I have to kind of live like a nun and not talk during the day, but that’s the only unusual thing.

AP: How do you not talk during the day? Is it hard?

Cher: Yeah. … It’s so hard for me, I just really have to think about it and just not speak, but I have to remind myself about 100 times a days, because I’m not the kind of person that doesn’t want to talk.

AP: Do you text people?

Cher: (Laughs) Oh yes, I do text people - I text, I email, which is kind of the only saving grace.

AP: What’s the best part of getting back to Vegas?

Cher: Look, performers love to perform - that’s the thing that we do. I think one of the best things was being able to imagine anything that I wanted, anything that I came up with we could do, because this theatre is unbelievable. I come home twice a week, so I’m kind of at home. … I’m not there that much, but it takes me 40 minutes to get home (in the Los Angeles area), it’s like doing a show from my bedroom.

AP: What’s your upcoming movie with Johnny Knoxville about?

Cher: I can’t really talk about it yet. I just can’t.     (more)

Sin City Mayor Says Obama’s Vegas Dis Ain’t Worth Craps

Sin City Mayor Says Obama’s Vegas Dis Ain’t Worth Craps

By JAKE TRAPPER, ABC NEWS’ SENIOR WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT

Oscar Goodman, the colorful mayor of Las Vegas, is outraged over comments President Obama made about his city, and has demanded that the president pay him an apology.
At issue are remarks about corporate responsibility Obama made at a town hall Monday in Elkhart, Ind., when responding to a question from an audience member.
“We’re going to do something to strengthen the banking system,” Mr. Obama said, “You are not going to be able to give out these big bonuses until you pay taxpayers back. You can’t get corporate jets. You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers’ dime. There’s got to be some accountability and some responsibility.”
Goodman responded today with outrage at Obama’s singling out his city in a negative light, dissuading — in his view — travel to Sin City.
“That’s outrageous,” Goodman, a Democrat, said to KLAS-TV today. “He owes us an apology. He owes us a retraction. What is a better place, I say, for them to come here. For them to change their mind and go someplace else and to cancel at the suggestion of the president of the United States, that is outrageous.”

Goodman is also the chairman of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and asked the state’s congressional delegation to speak to President Obama about this matter.

Goodman last made national news for defending an earmark he wanted put in the stimulus package, a $50 million museum dedicated to the history of organized crime.

The Best Pools in Vegas!

Looking for the best pools in Vegas? Best of Vegas has got you covered with their top 10 list …

What are a comfortable lounge chair and a tropical drink, along with lush surroundings and over-the-top landscaping, doing in the middle of the desert? Attracting more people than the casinos, that’s what. Throw in some gigantic pools, cascading waterfalls, wave machines, swim up bars, water slides, and even swim-up gaming, and what you have is no longer a desert – it’s an oasis. Thankfully, they’re not as hard to find as you might think; Las Vegas is home to some of the finest pools in the world possessing all these heavenly features and more.

Book a stay at one of the resorts on our list of Best Pools, and you’ll see that pools in Las Vegas are in an entirely separate league from pools elsewhere. At Mandalay Bay, you’ll find an 11-acre tropical lagoon that features a sandy beach, three pools, and a lazy river. Guests can even body surf on a waves as high as 6 feet in Mandalay Beach’s 1.6 million gallon wave pool. At the Mirage, you’ll find two pools with palm tree-lined islands and a series of interconnected lagoons. Three water slides offer a bit of excitement, and VIP cabanas come complete with flat screen TVs, fridges, rafts, misting machines, and more. And at the Hard Rock, you’ll swim to the rhythm of music pumped through an underwater sound system. Two pools and sandy beaches shaded by palm trees offer ample space for relaxing, and a swim-up blackjack is ready to satiate any gambling urges. Many of these pools even offer special party days, creating a nightlife scene under the sun.

And in a city where being naked is more likely to get you a free drink than arrested, many hotels are now offering European style pools where guests can sunbathe topless. Bare at the Mirage is one popular favorite, as well as the Venus Pool at Caesars Palace.

So take a dip into one of the following oases, and prepare to have your concept of a pool totally redefined. They’re that good.
